November 2019 Newsletter

 2 November 2019

Hello BCNM contributors and moderators

A few developments and a request for volunteer data entry support.

Code of Conduct

The BCNM Committee recommend that all Contributors, Moderators and Administrators please visit the About dropdown on the website and review the new section on the Code of Conduct. We would be happy to receive your responses to this initiative by the Committee.

Workshops for Moderators and Admins

Patricia Daley will be running a workshop for Moderators and Administrators on Friday 6 December in the morning in Ulladulla (to be confirmed as soon as we have numbers). In the afternoon 2-4 pm Libby Hepburn will run a workshop on BioBlitzes in preparation for projects next year. Please register your ability to attend either of these events by 22 November.

BioBlitz projects

BCNM is working with Milton Rural Landcare and Shoalhaven Transition towards a program of BioBlitzes during 2020. This involves volunteers as a team spending several hours or days concentrating on a particular location and the species in residence or passing through…

A workshop on BioBlitzes and organising them will be run by Libby Hepburn in Ulladulla on Friday 6 December at 2-4pm. Please register your ability to attend by 22 November.

A related project is a Sea Slug survey by sub-aquarists happening on the far south coast.

Data Entry

We need volunteer keyboarders! Can you please help by entering information about species into the website platform, as this will help others when distinguishing between specimens. This can be done at a gentle pace, a few entries at a time, or on a form for bulk uploading. Working with specific moderators, you will help greatly enhance the effectiveness and pleasure of correctly identifying sightings.

Requests

If you belong to a local wildlife related club or society, or landcare group, tell them about the Budawang Coast Nature Map project, or better still arrange for one or two of our more experienced contributors to come along and give a talk to your group.

For assistance in making sightings and recording them using the app and the website please email us and we will organise local workshops about the platform and app, if there is sufficient demand.

If you feel you have interest or knowledge about a species or genera, or you know of someone with enthusiasm or expertise who is not presently contributing to BCNM, please let us know. The project will blossom with greater numbers of contributors and moderators!
