Author's notes

Lattice or Basket Fungus. When fresh was covered with a brown slime. When dislodged, it sprang up, like a curled up dancer suddenly leaping and forming a football shape. The first 5 people shown it, said it was the remains of a football for it looked like a plastic netting.

Nothing like an entertaining fungus!! It can be such a surprise when these spring out of the ground at you. Good description of what they look like.

Thank you, Pam. Virginia Greasley, Lyndall’s neighbour. She encouraged me to register it. I’ve sent the photo as a mystery, around the world. A Norwegian friend recognised it, saying she had seen them there. A friend in Sydney thought it would be fungal, though I gave no indication it was even a plant. Thanks for your encouragement.

This genus is such fun particularly if they appear unexpectedly in front of you! Enjoy your foraying.
