This is a clematis seedling, and given the very coastal location I'm going to stick my neck out and call it glycinoides, since aristata tends to occur at higher altitudes (though not invariably). They can look quite similar, especially as seedlings, but aristata leaves are quite thick textured and glycinoides thin.
