Author's notes

This pair are regulars at our Retreat; they have one young that seems to be the same one as last year. I have seen other Glossy Blacks around us but I believe that we always have the same pair nesting on our driveway.

Very excited to report that our regular pair of Glossy Black Cockatoos now have a second off-spring. In recent previous years the family has numbered 3; this year the family has a fourth very young member who clearly requires a good deal of encouragement, judging by the noise! Great news.

It is now 17 January and post major bushfires that have set light to many Casuarinas. I have been concerned that we would lose our family of Glossy Blacks but over the last two days I have heard them calling so perhaps all is not lost ...

Yesterday, 20 August, I heard and saw our Glossy Black Cockatoos. At this stage only two, not four but I am so happy that they have returned despite the loss of many of our trees. Fortunately, we do seem to have a large number of saplings which may be assisting in the provision of food! The last two photographs above, were taken yesterday. :)
