Author's notes

At least two pairs of these Swallows, though I feel there are more as there are more than 4 swooping around. However, one pair is nesting in one house, another pair nesting in our house's shed. Both these sites are used every year. (We have 4 houses on the property). Shy. Alot of swooping and diving around and chattering. Last year one of the nests was decorated with brilliant red feathers!

I had already cropped it; if I cropped it further I think the picture would end up out of focus but I can give it a go ...

Yes, unfortunately I have only a little boxie Canon powershot that we bought from Aldi to use for telephoto purposes as my good Canon 50D has no telephoto as yet and I can't afford to solve that problem just at present! I am doing better on birds that come to the bird bath than I am with birds that swoop and fly fast and then sit as high as possible on the overflow pipes of our houses!

I had a Canon Powershot 20x camera before this SLR 1100D and it use to take great shots but you needed to be close and in good light. It was great for ID purposes OS as it was light and easy to use and also had macro and super macro for insects. Cheers
