This species of Polypore (not bolete) seems to appear relatively quickly after fires. The ones on properties near us haven't lasted long as they were a good food source for insects. They have a pseudosclerotia which looks like a swollen underground stem that tapers into an elongated section that is relatively fragile and snaps off easily. The stem and pseudosclerotia of the couple we excavated were easily 20 cm long. Dark brown externally due partly to all the material from the substrate coating them below the ground, though white inside and pale above the ground. The cracking on the cap (pileus) surface and the colour are typical of this species. They are reported to be found near eucalypts.
