Pam, I am re-entering notes from the previous Amanita recording because if you remember I was having problems with photographs. I may have to go back and check too but lets see how this goes:
30 May I wrote: These lasted about a week before dying off and must have taken as long to push through the soild. Brown colour on top and moderately tall; nr the veg garden on a bald bit of soil.
19 June spotted another pair close by.
Pam, you wrote 20 June: Had me a bit perplexed here for a while then I noticed whitish remnants of the universal veil in the centre of the cap and some other little specks. So universal veil, annulus (ring), white gills are all the characteristics that point to an Amanita though not one I've seen before I'm curious about the colour on the gill margins on 2 of images. Do you think this is just an age related character or are the gill edges slightly coloured?
20 June I wrote: about trying to delete and upload ... plus 'Yes, gills did appear to be coloured on the edges, though perhaps this was a trick of the light. In the mirror photo there are no signs of coloured edges; also in the mirrored image you can see white spots all around the edge of the top of the toadstool.
I have to close this to look at previous entry now, so I hope I've got all the correct pics!!
I love those 'white dots', makes me think of a lizards skin! Interesting how some images seem distinctly grey and others brownish. Could be a light/photographic effect. Nice looking specimen, sorry I can't take it to species level for you. Thank you for uploading the new images.
