This is Ramaria anziana, a species not yet listed on the species list. I'll add it now and fill in the details when I can. A spectacular looking fungus. As this is a mycorrhizal species the tree/s it is associated with must be able to transfer enough nutrients to the fungus to enable it to be able to produce these reproductive structures. In turn the fungus will be assisting the trees to gain nutrients and moisture from the soil to help in the post fire environment.

Thanks so much Pam, much appreciated. It is heartening to see that even in this severely affected area of the NNR life is returning.

Nature can be surprisingly robust if we give it half a chance. Always good to see something positive!
