Author's notes

Beneath She-oaks at edge of steep bank 4m above Shoalhaven river. Grass 1.5 m high with seedheads reaching 2m. Stems like thin bamboo.

This is a lot more likely to be A. ramosissima, which is much more common and widespread, and likes moist gully edge sort of habitat, but I wouldn't claim to be able to distinguish them from a photo.

Actually the height makes it sound more like ramosissima too, as I haven't seen verticillata get over 1m.

Thank you Jackie. Definitely > 1 metre. We have a heap growing as tubestock at the Nursery, from a historical planting there, and I have been keen to confirm ID. I was so happy to find it out in the wild. Will have to reprint the labels!!
