With the flooding of the Clyde River at the bottom of the garden the noise from the frogs has been deafening. Don't know how many but I would say 'alot'!
Is no one able to identify this frog? I had wondered if it was a whistling tree frog but it is probably too green. The noise of hundreds of them calling together in the wet is very shrill and whistle-like.
Whilst I can't positively identify this sighting based on the photos provided and the description given, I reckon it's probably either Litoria verreauxii or Litoria dentata. Litoria verreauxii is more likely based on your description of the call and nearest records, as they've been recorded up river from where you reported this sighting. Litoria dentata is commonly known as Bleating Tree Frog because of their distinctive call, which has been described as deafening. However, the nearest sighting of Litoria dentata is beside Termeil Creek between Old Coach Rd. and Monkey Mountain Rd. and also quite a way down river from where you saw this frog, so not nearby but not far away either.
If you can't get better photos or record the calls for a positive ID, I reckon your best bet is to try and listen to recorded calling of these species on the internet or get hold of Ken Griffiths book that has a disc of calls, including Litoria verreauxii and Litoria dentata and try and get a match.
